I recently came across a public service announcement on television that really caught my attention. It reminded me of a past project that I did to help teens and young adults combat the abuse and distribution of prescription medication. I went on the televised website , drugfree.org - Partnership for a Drug-Free America, and saw how this was an ongoing problem that was escalating, and more and more teens were experimenting and abusing prescription drugs. "Every day, 2,500 teenagers use a prescription drug to get high for the first time. They're accessing these drugs in the comfort of home; it can be as easy as opening a cupboard, drawer, or medicine cabinet."
The website is very informative, and this non-for-profit organization reaches thousands of people through broadcast and print PSA's. One tangible design solution they set up through these mediums are by educating teens and parents through systems on the website, like tool-kits, and checklists, on ways to help and prevent kids from abusing prescription medications. "The good news - there are steps you can take to help protect your kids from prescription drug abuse: monitor, secure and dispose. This site, created by Abbott and The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, shows you how."
This is one video that I found on youtube that really helps raise awareness on this issue, and I really hope that they continue airing these types of PSA's.
