Vanessa Leung. Intangible Product Assignment

I am interested with issues such as the environment, the quality and the production of wine. An obvious connection between the two is how they relate to one another. The intangible problem is how global warming creates unhealthy conditions we have created; it becomes harder to be able to produce an acceptable quality of wine. The poor environmental conditions create a variety of problems for vineyards such as diseases in the soil, vines, and pests, creating a more labor-intensive process. Therefore, some vineyards has started to look into new ways of packaging their wine for two reasons to be more economical and reduce the carbon footprint.

DeLoach “Barrel-to-Barrel” is a new way to serve wine by the glass. This wooden barrel delivers the exact quality as if you drank from one of the vineyards barrels. Instead of multiple wine bottles which are heavy due to the thick glass; DeLoach has created an eco-bag that can hold up to 10 liters of wine. This is currently the most profitable wine by the glass solution where it can hold up to 67 glasses (a liter more than a traditional case). The eco-bag is also very minimal where it removes the need for corkage and glass bottles reducing the carbon footprint because of the dramatic weight loss. Even though the eco-bag protects the wine from oxidation, it can only stay fresh for 6 -8 weeks.
