The creation of the 8th continent

I don't know if any of you know about the new growing continent that is (in fact) entirely made of garbage, the garbage that WE made and threw every second. The size of it is already as big as Texas, and it can not be stopped to continue to grow. To make the thing worse, we can not take pictures of it from any angles. The ocean looks perfectly normal. The huge area is more like a soup than a land that you can stand on. I heard about this about a week ago.

I am posting this to let you know that we have the 8th continent made of garbage and it is the world's melting pot of trash, increasing the size by the day.
YES it is happening now.

We need to solve this gigantic problem.

Three issues to be examined
- Land use
- Human behavior
- Environment

External relationships
- BK Farmyards, Stacey Murphy, founder, executive director
- NYC department of environmental protection - education sector
- UN

The Sources from each external relationship
- How to use and develop the land and space
- Environmental education system to examine
- World's vision and plan for the earth

I am interested in addressing...

- Urban land use through the creation of alternative (public and private) space; economical or eco-ical or both

- Creating a new system of our life cycle (evolution). We need to aware and feel what is happening and what is going to happen to our land that we stand on.

- Collaborative work of program, product, and campaign to change people's behavior. Example is below, Youtube movie clip by Fun Theory. People do not like to pay attention something serious. We need to make fun proposals to change serious things into something that is easy to understand and fun to change the behaviors.

Hi!
I really enjoyed reading the article about the 8th continent. I find that mind-blowing, but also very believable. That place in the Pacific Ocean It is kind of like the dirty sink drain of the entire planet, apparently.
I also liked the You Tube Video, and I agree, there are the seeds of an idea for your thesis here.
It sounds like you are suggesting creating a new form of audio advertising that would occur in unexpected places. This would be a cheap and potentially effective tool. Without being offensive, you should look at the advertising on urinal strainers. They have a captive audience, and if they can make the message palatable, it might provide good exposure!

Hey HS,

It's really disturbing to read that we're filling the ocean with our trash. This past summer I contributed to a beach clean up in Spring Lake, NJ. I collected over 400 bottle caps, countless plastic products, and various other random things. I was in shock to know that the beaches we apparently appreciate are being filled with trash. It's something I think you could benefit from looking into.

Also, two years ago when we were having some major storms at the beginning of the summer- New Jersey shore beaches were closed because the current was so rough that medical waste washed up onto shore. Medical waste?! How did it get into the ocean in the first place...

One more thing-- I'm from Staten Island-- land of the dump AKA Fresh Kills. It's one of the land fills where NY and NJ transports their garbage to. Fresh Kills was becoming so large that it was one of the only masses of "land" that could be seen from outer space. Supposedly it's been closed down, but the smell is in full effect and it's quite wretched. In the next few years they're going to be turning Fresh Kills into a huge park...literally just covering all the garbage underneath it.

Here's a great video: http://www.time.com/time/video/player/0,32068,37913829001_1921226,00.html
