hi mary... thanks so much for the comments! I have a question.. what is the national treasures that Japan has? Is it a recent attempt to preserve Japanese art and craft? If you could give me some more info on this it would be great..
My products are meant for the urban Indian (well thats what I have in mind thus far) One of my main concerns is to make sure that I preserve technique and customs, and make sure that Indian people are reconnected to these crafted items in a more socially relevant context. (a lot of these crafts were designed under socio-political constraints of the caste system, shamanistic rituals etc. Thus i think they should be re-designed to make them more socially relevant... (sorry.. I am probably rambling.. but I hope you understand what it is that i am trying to say..)

a big problem
japan created the national treasures to try and maintain/honor the craftsman. Have you looked into that effort?
updating craft products by craftsmen: see rugs from iran which included machine guns, etc.
where is the market you see for the craftsman's products?
