This blog provides a forum for students, instructors and others to share information and ideas about the Spring Thesis Program at Parsons the New School for Design in New York City.
Angela, I read your post with great interest. It's a fascinating, although horrifying topic, and a great one to focus on for the thesis year project. Obviously, there is no shortage of existing research on this topic, and you will have no trouble finding outside sources that will probably talk to you about your project (although some people might not want to, because it could be seen as a sensitive subject)
by the way, have you seen the movie Trade? It is about this exact subject, and is a really amazing and disturbing film. Here is an interesting article by an author who has questions about the NY Times article that was the basis of the movie Trade. http://www.radosh.net/archive/000061.html
I am looking forward to seeing where you will go next with this idea; I can think of a number of directions you could take it, in terms of coming up with a smart product design addressing this issue. But I am going to withhold my comments for now, until I see where you take it. steven
