You would have to really get to know how customs and immigration work in order to make this kind of intervention a success. Different countries will work differently. If you are focusing on one (or just a few) countries, you will need to understand what other issues top their list of concerns (drug trafficking? terrorism? smuggling of other commodities such as weapons or animals?) What techniques do they use to identify suspicious behavior? What techniques could you help them employ to identify the trafficking of women? This project will benefit the women who you are protecting, but the user in this case is someone else (the customs official) so you must be vigilant in understanding their motivations and the principles that govern their work.

Dear patty
you're absolutely right, I already feel like i am growing another head reading all the different customs regulations. I found that the products that the non profit organizations have are mostly system like product such as providing employee opportunity or donating. I will continue researching and reading news to see if there are other design gaps that i can fill in. What would you suggest me to do for survey wise?
Thanks

Angela

Angela, I am hoping that you are still focused on this problem, because it is fascinating and will be of crucial significance in the near future. You have identified a problem (human trafficking) and a solution (uncounterfeitable transit documents), which is exactly where you want to be at this point in thesis. You don't have to have a solution yet, but have identified a nice juicy problem with plenty of opportunities to do research, and that's an important step.

Document and credential design is an area that is of interest to people around the world, and you can find information about existing systems in the academic literature as well as in the popular press and government publications. Can you imagine the attention you would get if you could design a passport that had the ability to do an instant DNA scan on you while you were standing at the customs desk? It would just take a little skin or bit of hair....My advice to you is to do this project, and don't worry about the complexity. You can suggest a technology that does not exist yet, as long as it is feasible and within the realm of possibility.
