Ga-Ram Han // Hypothesis, Stakeholders, Plan, Tools

Hypothesis:

Health and sustainability are topic issues that I can relate to, whether through past experiences, or current issues that I am invested in. To explore these issues with a more universal approach, I have realized that many of these concerns have an underlying influence on the students of The New School. Whether they are looking at prescription drug abuse, daily commuting through means of bicycle, or energy conservation, students have to deal with such issues on mental and physical health, and also being aware of their energy expenditure through an extensive sustainable curriculum. By increasing the awareness of these issues, behavioral practices can be swayed by educational tools implemented into a new or existing curriculum.

Stakeholders:

Students – Who have real time, up to date information on various issues within The New School community.
Individuals - People that are faced with these current issues that could lend or use helpful information.
Organizations on Campus – Student Sustainability Committee, Openminds,NORML
Organizations (non for profit)– drugfree.org, gsa.gov, ibike.org, connecting with professionals with all the right tools
Teacher and faculty – Way to gain insight into curriculum, and getting second opinions.
Department of transportation – Working with city officials
Health Establishments – School health facilities that can help with statistics

Plan:

Focusing primarily in tying these issues into one cohesive topic of discussion that will in turn help synthesize a hypothesis that could be answered by many different individuals. Starting with The New School community, I can obtain helpful information directly, and from there build upon these issues with a more solid foundation. Contacting organizations will help obtain statistical information, and research information. Looking into different school organizations, and getting email lists to get people to participate in an online survey that will be confidential, and informative. Also by create awareness pamphlets will be another important medium to use to help spread the word of these surveys.
