Patty’s feedback included approval of my graphic exploration this week. She explained that a mood is necessary to get your point across. The point of contention was the giant rose, and I agree. I definitely don’t plan on using that icon as the focus of my project, but I think it was the most relevant link to the material world I have had so far.
Rick and Patty both spoke about Amanda’s exceptional intro. I agree. Her list of points covered at the start of her three-minute sell makes sense. I plan on incorporating this idea of organization for my next presentation.
Steven expressed concern that I have not designed a product since my six-sided die. I will work to design another tool this week.
Rick’s feedback included notice of my increasingly focused subject. He also pointed out that I should continue to keep etiquette at the center of my argument.
I spoke to Mary about external partnerships. We agreed that I will begin by contacting individuals with a short survey, followed by a request for three more people each of those individuals knows (as well as a query as to whether they know someone involved in the organizations I need to contact). Then I will contact the organizations I have chosen. I will network and assimilation from those two angles.
The Individuals I will start with are politicians. Even if they can’t answer my questions (for publicity reasons), they have a strong network of individuals who can.
The following five politicians are all gay and all serve in New York.
Sean Patrick Maloney
(former Democratic candidate for state Attorney General. He is the former First Deputy Secretary to the Governor, which made him a senior advisor and Cabinet member of New York Gov. David Paterson. He also served as First Deputy Secretary in the Administration of former Gov. Eliot Spitzer)
Thomas K. Duane
(currently serving on the New York State Senate as Chairman of the Senate Health Committee)
Micah Z. Kellner
(Democratic member of the New York State Assembly from the 65th district, which includes Manhattan's Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island)
Daniel J. O'Donnell
(Democratic member of the New York State Assembly from the 69th district in Manhattan, made up of the neighborhoods of Manhattan Valley, Morningside Heights, and portions of the Upper West Side and West Harlem)
Matthew J. Titone
(Democratic member of the New York State Assembly from the 61st District, on Staten Island's North Shore)
I will continue with the following list of prominent individuals:
Lawyers
Bankers
Accountants
Doctors
Business owners
Entertainers
Designers
And organizations:
Task Force Academy for Leadership and Action
GLBT NAtional Help Center
GLSEN (Gay, Lespbian and Straignt Education Network)
LGBTQ Issues
GMHC (Gay Men's Health Crisis)
Deliverables:
-Charette
I plan on doing my charette at GMHC at their daily Aids Walk volunteering session. They have a rotating door of people coming in every evening to work the phone bank, stuff envelopes, etc. I want to approach this organization with a trade: I will volunteer in return for letting me give out a two-minute survey and/or lead a five minute activity. The five-minute activity will include creating a greeting card for the next holiday you plan on celebrating. The survey will be to extract peoples’ opinions about heteronormativity.
-Graphic language (mood board, fonts, etc.)
-Board layout
-More academic research
-Market research
-Outreach (individuals and organizations)
