Hypothesis:

Transportation in New York City causes issues due to inconvenience within traffic, pollution, andlimited parking space. Transportation in such busy city needs a change to allow the people to enjoy convenient and safer ways to get to one place to the next by creating other beneficial systems within the city.

Primary Issue:

Transportation in large cities causes issues due to inconvenience within traffic, pollution, and limited parking space. In the city of New York, people run into these issues in their everyday lives, trying to find their way to the next location in such hurry.

Design opportunity:

Transportation in such busy city needs a change to allow the people to enjoy convenient and safer ways to get to one place to the next by creating other beneficial systems within the city. Such examples can be seen through Zipcar, or Europe’s bicycle rental system. Zipcar allows people to easily rent a car near their desired location, within a low price range. Similar to Zipcar’s system, Europe’s bicycle system allows the people to rent a bicycle at any station and return it at any station as well.

Responsible for the management of much of New York City’s transporation infrasturcture.

Public benefit corporation responsible for public transportation in the U.S. state of New York.

PlaNYC is a design for the sustainability of New York City. Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s outline for his vision for the city over the next twenty-five years. The Plan include: Land, Water, Transportation, Energy, Air, Climate Change.

Have you taken a look at the designs for the new traffic patterns in times square and Herald Square? They are doing an experiment to see how to reduce traffic in Manhattan.

Another thing you might want to look at is the congestion pricing plan that was defeated recently, but could happen in the future. It is done in London, and it works to reduce traffic.
