Chika Nakayama Revice

The feedback that I received on Monday made me realize what my interests are relate to my thesis. I am interested in nomad’s way of life in Mongolia, like how they follow their animals and live in harmony with nature. The grassland and climate dictate the movement of these people. Their lifestyle has existed for three thousand years. In contrast, we have a totally different lifestyle. We have completely depended on urban system and life, removing ourselves from the earth. This urban society is relatively new phenomenon that is changing people’s culture. The nomadic culture has become precious in this shift of population. It is worthly cause to preserve this way of life to keep our culture close to nature.

Hypothesis-To bring nomadic lifestyle to modern living. I want to make the older culture more important influence in people’s lives today.

Primary issue
-Nomadic lifestyle in Mongolia

Secondary issue
- Modern living

What I need to do

-Deep understanding of Mongolian lifestyle (how they live, move, eat, work…)
What can we learn from them?
What’s the beneficial to apply their lifestyle to modern living?
What’s the value?
who is more successful?
-Compare how we live and how they live
Similarity/ difference

Stakeholder
Nomads in Mongolia
Mongolian
Mongolian government
People in Urban city (new Yorker)

Hi Chika,
I would like to speak with you about your project. I feel that you are not specific enough in your investigation, so I may be able to help. It sounds like you are interested in learning about nomadic lifestyle, and then identifiying a product that you could learn about and adapt to markets in the developed world. Take a look at this video (let me know if you are not sure how to use the link):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ0uojUHYdA

The video shows people making felt for a house. It's pretty interesting! Maybe you should try to buy some mongolian felt and then make something with it. Or, you can make felt by hand in the way that they do it in Mongolia, then use that material to make a chair or other product. one approach to preserving nomadic lifestyle in Mongolia would be to develop a market in the US, Europe and Asia made with a product that they produce in Mongolia. You could try felt, which apparently is used made by nomads and then used in building construction.

Here another video about Mongolia.
