Angela Midreview 3/09/10

Mathew Hoey:
- Excited about the unique hybrid product opportunity
-Should invest with Nike and other big name brand for bigger profit for the children
- Pointed me to a material connection contact
- Also invest in products other then shoes

Susan (From Global issues)
-Board is confusing
-to look up Anna Mir's product (cloth to prevend STD)
-Possibility of turning into a child labor situation is high
-clear marketing plan, but it is basically the exchange of child sex slave to child labor
-how to differenciate that the products are made in cambodia

Jessica Lee
- Have a packaging that tells the story
-the board is very compelling
- look at shoes from shoegasm ( made from )recycled billboard from china

Len
-Have the language right- ne stern, be confident
-state the mission and purpose of the project such as "weaving is my design intervention"
-have pattern and characteristic of Cambodia represented on the shoe
-Look into the trend of stylish shoes and maybe have a beautiful pair of high end shoes
-Like the fact that my 30 second spill isn't from the board :)

Seth and PJ
- Have even more connection with the alraedy established organization
-Investigate more weaving technique and think of the target audience age group
- Compelling board
-Continue to work hard :)

Patty
- The fact that Cambodia has 6 month rainy season actually provides a perfect opportunity for the need of these girls to continue making shoes- straw shoes doesn't last long in water, so there's a need for more shoes,
the weather condition of Cambodia actually is on my project's side!
- Remember to tell the story before and the story after

Antionette
-Very interesting idea
-Reminds her of Tom's shoe, but now the Cambodians can provide each other within the community
-What happens in the wet season? straw will desolve
-Brilliant idea because she's been to Cambodia and knows how much shoes are needed to prevent injury and worm infections, it is very important.

Kevin
- Very sharp and hit to the point video
-Will help with creating a webpage and storyboard for the project
- like the idea of shoes because of the need
-should eliminate some text on the board

Steven
-Beautiful board and it seem like i finally came to a design intervention/solution
-continue working hard on the forms of the shoes and other product opportunities

Juniors
-Really like the board and the whole idea about weaving
-How can you tell the difference between a pair of made in Cambodia shoes and a pair of made in China shoes
-Whole food is pefect for the project because they are also doing similar things with other country
-Excited to see my final

Angela, it seems like you got a lot of good feedback from the mid Review. Of course, some of it is contradictory, so now you have the interesting problem of having too many different ideas and possible directions. As you know, I have been very pleased with the energy and determination with which you have approached your thesis project, but now you must start making a lot more prototypes, running tests and making changes.

I think that you should be doing a lot of research into shoe manufacturing, not just styling and branding. Even though you will be relying on low tech methods without a lot of machinery, you should make sure you understand how shoes are typically made, so that you can develop alternative arrangements. I think that you should try to imagine how this operation would look, what kinds of skills the workers will need, how many pairs per day you can expect them to produce, the cost per pair as compared to traditional methods. You have a big job here, because you are responsible not only for what the shoes look like and what they are made of, but how will a rural factory be able to manufacture them. You have enough time to do all of that before the end, but you have to keep working very hard, and you can't afford any more changes of direction. Let me know if I can help.
