Hi David, Leigh Ann, Chika and Angela,
You have done a superb job of decomposing this thesis and then reconstructing it from the ground up. It appears that you have have rejected to designer's decision to focus on the food carrier exclusively, because the inadequacies of existing methods is not the (main) cause of the safety problems confronting delivery guys. You are correct to look at the problem holistically; by looking at the cycle of events that happen starting when an order is called in, and ending when the delivery guy comes back to the restaurant to wait for the next order. This cycle includes a variety of steps, and an overall solution needs to consider each element of this process. Your analysis led you (correctly, in my opinion) to develop a combination of services and products, not just a single physical object.
